Big setback to Mamata Banerjee Government by Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court delivered a major verdict on Thursday regarding the long-standing dispute between the West Bengal government and its employees. This decision by the apex court has dealt a significant blow to the Bengal government.

Long-Running Dispute
The Supreme Court ruled on the long-running dispute over dearness allowance (DA) for approximately 2 million government employees in West Bengal. The apex court directed that all employees should be paid the DA arrears for the period from 2008 to 2019.

The court also reiterated that it would continue its earlier interim order, which mandated that at least 25 percent of the arrears be paid by March 6.
