CJI Surya Kant’s Office Strongly Condemns Fake Social Media Posts

The Office of the Chief Justice of India has strongly condemned the circulation of fabricated social media posts falsely attributing inflammatory remarks to Chief Justice Surya Kant. The statement termed the fake quote as “baseless, malicious, and demonstrably false” and warned that such misinformation undermines public trust in the judiciary and constitutional institutions.

New Delhi: The Office of the Chief Justice of India issued a strongly worded statement condemning the circulation of fake and misleading social media posts falsely attributing remarks to Hon’ble Chief Justice Surya Kant.

According to the official release issued on Saturday, certain posts currently being circulated widely on social media platforms have falsely claimed that the Chief Justice made controversial remarks relating to social and constitutional issues.

The statement specifically referred to an X (formerly Twitter) account identified as “@UnreservedMERIT,” which allegedly circulated a fabricated graphic falsely attributing the following statement to Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India:

“अगर एक समाज ख़ुद को IAS, IPS, CJI, President, PM बनकर भी ख़ुद को शोषित ही रखना चाहता है, तो इसमें गलती ब्राह्मणों की नहीं बल्कि उसकी अपनी मानसिकता की है।”

The Office clarified that the attributed remarks are “wholly baseless, malicious, and demonstrably false.”
Condemning the misinformation campaign in the strongest terms, the Office of the Chief Justice stated:

“To manufacture a fictitious quote, and to attribute it to the highest judicial office of the land is an act of rank dishonesty, deliberate social incitement, and contempt for constitutional values.”

The release further said: “Such reckless conduct strikes at the very foundation of public trust in the judiciary and the rule of law.”
The Office also appealed to citizens, media organisations, and social media platforms to refrain from circulating or amplifying unverified and fabricated content.

“The Office of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India calls upon all responsible citizens, media organisations, and social media platforms to refrain from amplifying false and contrived content,” the statement added.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the increasing spread of misinformation and fake quotes involving constitutional authorities and public institutions on social media platforms.
