New Delhi: As global oil supply chains reel under the ongoing West Asia conflict, India has extended crucial support to Sri Lanka by supplying 38,000 metric tonnes (MT) of fuel. The move comes as Colombo grapples with a sudden disruption in energy imports linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake publicly acknowledged India’s timely assistance, describing it as “swift support” during a period of urgent need. The fuel shipment reached Colombo on Saturday, helping ease immediate concerns over shortages.

The development follows a recent conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dissanayake, where both leaders discussed the impact of the crisis on Sri Lanka’s energy security.

Modi highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, stating that India remains committed to supporting its neighbours in times of crisis. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also played a key role in coordinating the emergency response.
According to officials, the total 38,000 MT fuel consignment comprises:
20,000 MT of diesel
18,000 MT of petrol
The supplies were arranged through Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and delivered via Lanka IOC, ensuring rapid deployment amid supply disruptions.
