Telangana workers who travelled to Russia for jobs allegedly trapped in military service (Images: X)
Hyderabad: Families of four men from Telangana’s Nizamabad district have sought immediate government intervention, alleging that their relatives were taken to Russia on the promise of civilian employment, but later forced into military service. The families approached the Telangana government’s public grievance programme in Hyderabad, seeking help to bring the men back safely. They claimed that the four are currently undergoing military training under difficult conditions and fear being deployed in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The four men — Mohammad Khan, B Ravinder, S Ashok and M Prakash — reportedly travelled to Russia around eight months ago after contacting an agent who promised them jobs such as gardening, mechanical work and other manual labour. According to their families, the men were later taken to Russian military facilities instead of workplaces and were allegedly made to undergo military training. The families claimed that their relatives were misled about the nature of the work and were forced into joining the Russian military.
The men allegedly informed their families over phone calls about their difficult situation. They claimed they were stationed in forest areas where they had limited access to basic facilities. According to their families, the four men were being made to travel long distances while carrying heavy equipment and weapons. They also alleged that the men were receiving training related to firearms and explosives.
The families expressed concern that the men could eventually be sent to areas affected by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
After receiving the complaint, officials assured the families that necessary steps would be taken through diplomatic channels to facilitate the men’s return. The families have urged authorities to treat the matter as urgent and ensure the safe repatriation of all four individuals.
The case has once again highlighted concerns over people being allegedly misled by overseas job agents with promises of employment, but facing unexpected situations abroad.
