Uttarakhand’s young talents honored with ‘Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Medhavi Chhatra Samman’ in Delhi

In a grand ceremony at Delhi’s Garhwal Bhawan, 124 Uttarakhand students were honored for academic excellence in 10th, 12th, and competitive exams. The event celebrated toppers, a national-level athlete, and featured a speech in Garhwali, emphasizing pride in their roots and cultural heritage.

New Delhi: The Bhagirathi Auditorium of the historic Garhwal Bhawan in capital Delhi, once again witnessed the brilliant performance and honor of the talented students of Uttarakhand on Sunday. A grand program of 'Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Medhavi Chhatra Samman-2025' was organized by 'Garhwal Hitaishi Sabha' here.

124 students got honor

A total of 124 students of Garhwali origin living in Delhi-NCR were honored in this ceremony. These included 67 meritorious students of class 10th and 47 meritorious students of class 12th, who had scored more than 90% marks in their board examinations. Apart from this, students who achieved success in prestigious competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, NET, and CA were also rewarded.

Professor Geeta Bhatt's address in Garhwali

Chief Guest Professor Geeta Bhatt (Director, Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, Delhi University) delivered her address entirely in the Garhwali language. She said that the share of people of Uttarakhand in the total population of the country is only 0.8%, but still they have a strong presence in high positions in the country, which is a matter of pride.

She called upon the students to go ahead and bring glory to Uttarakhand and appealed to the Uttarakhand's people living in the country and abroad to always keep the culture of their motherland and Devbhoomi alive within them.

Toppers' great achievement

Adhyayan Negi (Sandeep Negi's son) achieved the distinction of getting the highest marks by scoring 99.4% in the 10th board examination. Ananya Khantwal topped the 12th board examination by scoring 99% marks.

National Table Tennis player Suryansh Raturi also honored 

National table tennis player Suryansh Raturi was also specially honored at the ceremony. Despite being a 'non-attending student' (which was allowed by the school and CBSE due to sports), he scored 94.20% marks in the 12th board examination. His great balance in both sports and studies is an inspiration for everyone.

Honor for outstanding performance in various fields

Five students who became Chartered Accountants (CA), two students who cleared NEET, Akshita Negi and Arpita Negi, who performed remarkably in the sports world, students who cleared JEE Mains, Arnav Jakhawal, who got admission to IIT Roorkee, Riya Negi in the field of dance, and Delhi Police Inspector Rakesh Rana, who was awarded the President's Medal, were also honored by the gathering.

Appeal for Disaster Relief Fund

Sabha President Surat Singh Rawat welcomed the guests and gave information about the work of the Sabha. He appealed to the public to donate to the 'Disaster Relief Fund' established by the Sabha to help the victims of the Dharali and Tharali areas of Uttarakhand.

Many eminent personalities were present

As special guests in the ceremony, Uttarayani and Badthwal Kutumb's President (IRS) Rajkumar Badthwal, Director in Finance Ministry, Government of India Pradeep Purohit, Jawaharlal Nehru University's Joint Registrar Anoop Kukasal, Corporation Councilor Bir Singh Pawar, Corporation Councilor Yashpal Kaintura, former Corporation Councilor Geeta Rawat, politician and social worker Jot Singh Bisht, social worker Aditya Ghildiyal, Virendra Singh Negi, Corporation Councilor Veer Singh Negi, Yashpal Kaintura, senior journalist Dataram Chamoli along with many dignitaries and Sabha Advisory Board members and Sabha members were present in large numbers.

The gathering felicitated several individuals for their achievements. They honored five new Chartered Accountants: Abhishek Joshi, Ashutosh Prasad Kukreti, Dipanshi Rawat, Prerna Kandari, and Shreshta Negi. NEET qualifiers Maitree Navani and Snigdha Bhatt were also recognized, along with sports achievers Aakriti, Akshita Negi, and Arpita Negi. Those who passed JEE Mains—Aditya Bisht, Ayush Joshi, and Gauri Negi—were acknowledged, as was Arnav Jakhwal for securing admission to IIT Roorkee and Riya Negi for her accomplishments in dance. Additionally, Delhi Police Inspector Rakesh Rana, a recipient of the President's Medal, was honored.

Smooth Execution by General Secretary

The function was efficiently managed by the General Secretary of the Sabha, Pawan Kumar Maithani.

Cultural Program and Closing

The program started with auspicious songs, lighting of lamps, and Vedic mantras. On this special occasion, the entire Garhwal Bhawan was immersed in the color of Garhwali culture, and people danced to the beats of traditional Dhol-Damau and Muskbaz. Each student who received the honor was given a memento (medal), a certificate, and a cash prize.
