New Delhi: The weather is set to turn turbulent across several parts of India as the monsoon prepares to withdraw. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across nearly 20 states over the next few hours.
Wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kmph in some areas, while lightning and sudden thunderstorms may add to the risk. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat are among the regions expected to experience unsettled weather.
Delhi is likely to remain cloudy throughout the day, with light to moderate rain expected in several areas. The maximum temperature may remain between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could settle between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.
Strong winds of up to 50 kmph are also possible in the national capital.
In Uttar Pradesh, several districts including Ghaziabad, Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut and Saharanpur may witness thunderstorms accompanied by rain. Lucknow is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius, with strong winds possible in parts of the state.
Madhya Pradesh could see another spell of intense weather, with Bhopal, Indore, Sagar, Narmadapuram and Ujjain among the areas likely to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Bhopal may record a maximum temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius, while wind speeds could touch 55 kmph.
In Rajasthan, heavy rain is expected in parts of Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Barmer and Bharatpur. Jaipur may see temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celsius.
Bihar is also on alert, with 17 districts facing the possibility of heavy rain and lightning. East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Patna and Rohtas are among the areas likely to be affected.
Several parts of Gujarat could witness heavy rainfall, with Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Dwarka among the areas facing a weather warning.
In southern India, parts of Tamil Nadu including Vellore, Salem and Madurai may experience rain accompanied by strong winds of up to 50 kmph.
The weather is also expected to remain rough in Arunachal Pradesh. Upper Siang, Lohit and Papum Pare could witness heavy rain and strong winds, with wind speeds potentially reaching 60 kmph.
Kolkata may record a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. Chennai is likely to see 32 and 27 degrees Celsius, while Mumbai may record 31 and 26 degrees Celsius.
Ranchi could see temperatures of 29 and 22 degrees Celsius. Shimla may remain cooler at 22 and 16 degrees Celsius, while Nainital could record 23 and 17 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has advised people to exercise caution during thunderstorms and strong winds. Residents have been urged to avoid standing near trees, electricity poles and weak structures during periods of severe weather.
