New Delhi: Halfway through April, heatwaves have begun to rapidly intensify across India. According to the India Meteorological Department, temperatures have reached close to 40°C in many parts of the northern plains, western, and central India. Heatwave-like conditions are developing prematurely in many areas, while cold weather continues to persist in the hilly states.

Increasing Heat in North India

The weather remains dry in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan, and the scorching sun is making people uncomfortable. Heatwave-like conditions are possible in many areas, including Lucknow. Temperatures are expected to reach 39°C in Jaipur. Chandigarh is also experiencing a gradual increase in heat.

Situation in Western and Central India

Temperatures in Ahmedabad could reach 41°C, forcing people to endure intense heat and dry winds. The effects of heatwaves are also clearly visible in many parts of central and western India, where rainfall is unlikely.

Heat and Humidity in South India

Maximum temperatures in Hyderabad are expected to reach 40°C, while interior Karnataka will also experience increased heat. Due to low rainfall, dry heat will persist. Temperatures in Mumbai will remain relatively low, but humidity may bother people in coastal areas.

Cold weather persists in hilly states

Light snowfall and cold will persist in the high altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Srinagar will experience cold mornings and evenings, while the day may remain cloudy.

Concerns about the Monsoon

According to the Meteorological Department's initial forecast, this year's monsoon is expected to be below average. If this happens, it could impact agriculture and water resources.

Advice for Precaution

Experts have advised people to avoid the intense sun, drink enough water, and avoid going out during the afternoon. Given the increasing heat, the situation could worsen in the coming days.
