New Delhi: The weather across the country is expected to exhibit two distinct patterns in the coming days. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures will rise rapidly in the plains, leading to heat waves, while rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall are expected to intensify in the hilly and northeastern states.

Temperatures to Rise in Plains

According to the IMD, maximum temperatures in northwest, central, and eastern India are expected to rise by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next four to five days. This will push temperatures above normal in many states. Temperatures are expected to reach 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Dry weather and hot winds are expected in these areas.

Heat wave alert in central and western India

A heat wave warning has been issued for Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Temperatures are expected to rise sharply in these areas between April 16 and 18. Additionally, heat waves are expected to intensify in parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra, prompting caution.

Weather to Change in the Western Himalayas

Dry weather is expected in Himachal Pradesh until April 15th, but will change starting April 16th. A yellow alert has been issued for rain and snowfall in high-altitude areas on April 17th and 18th. Strong winds (30-40 km/h) and lightning are also expected during this period.

A new western disturbance will activate in the Western Himalayas around April 15th, leading to increased rainfall and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand.

Heavy Rain Expected in Northeast India

The weather will be more active in the northeastern states. Heavy rain is expected in Arunachal Pradesh on April 14th, 15th, and 18th. Heavy rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya on April 17th and 18th. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Rainfall is also likely to continue in Sikkim and sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Humidity and Rain in South India

Heat will increase along with humidity in South India. Humidity may cause discomfort in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. However, light to moderate rain is expected in Kerala and Karnataka between April 13 and 16.

Advice: The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant in the changing weather, protect themselves from heat waves, and take necessary precautions during inclement weather.
