New Delhi: The weather pattern across several parts of India is set to witness a major change as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in 16 states. The warning comes at a time when many regions had started experiencing cooler conditions with the arrival of early winter-like weather.
According to the latest weather update, an active weather system has developed due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal and another upper-air circulation over Uttar Pradesh. These systems are expected to trigger intense rainfall and thunderstorms in several states.
The IMD has warned that many areas may witness gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 65 kmph during thunderstorms. Some states may also experience hailstorms due to the unstable weather conditions.
The weather department has advised people, especially farmers and residents in affected areas, to remain cautious and avoid open spaces, weak structures and standing near trees during thunderstorms.
The national capital and adjoining areas are likely to remain under cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms and heavy showers. Wind speeds in Delhi-NCR may reach around 40 to 50 kmph.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle near 22 degrees Celsius. Rainfall could lead to a further drop in temperatures.
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Meerut, Saharanpur, Aligarh, Mathura, Bahraich, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar and Gorakhpur, are expected to witness heavy rainfall and strong winds.
In Bihar, districts including Patna, Araria, Bhojpur, Gaya, Vaishali, Munger, Purnia, Buxar, Kishanganj, Jehanabad and Saharsa are likely to experience thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall.
In Madhya Pradesh, districts including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Vidisha, Neemuch, Morena, Sheopur, Agar Malwa and Dhar may receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
The IMD has predicted wind speeds of around 30 to 40 kmph in parts of the state. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert as weather conditions remain volatile.
