New Delhi: The weather across the country is once again changing. According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in northwest India are expected to drop due to an active western disturbance. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area in South India and the coastal areas has triggered a rain and strong wind alert. Unsettled weather is expected in many states over the next 48 hours.

Cold weather expected to increase in Uttarakhand

According to the Meteorological Department, light rain and snowfall are expected in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand. This could increase the cold in the mountainous regions. Minimum temperatures in northwest India, including Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, are expected to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures are also expected to decrease by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, increasing the morning and evening chill.

Effect of a Cyclonic System and Trough

An active western disturbance is affecting northern Rajasthan and surrounding areas. This system extends from an altitude of 3 to 7 kilometers above the ground. The cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan has now moved toward northeast Rajasthan. Furthermore, a trough extending from North Konkan to Gujarat and eastern Rajasthan is also affecting the weather. Due to all these factors, atmospheric instability persists.

Rainfall forecast for South India and island regions

A low-pressure area formed near the equatorial Indian Ocean and southwest Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestward. Its impact is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speeds could reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in some areas.

Alert in coastal areas, fishermen warned

Wind speeds are expected to reach 50 to 60 kilometers per hour around the Gulf of Mannar and the Comorin region. Strong winds are also possible in the southwest Bay of Bengal and along the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Temperatures will continue to fluctuate

Temperatures in northwest India are expected to drop over the next two days, followed by stability for five days. Temperatures in eastern India will remain stable for the time being, while Maharashtra and Gujarat may see a gradual increase of 2 to 3 degrees. This change in weather signals a need for caution.
