New Delhi: Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked the central government over the killing of Manipuri musician C Vikram Singh in Delhi, questioning the safety of people from the Northeast in the national capital.
Rahul Gandhi demanded a swift investigation into the case and questioned the role of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police, saying accountability was needed for rising incidents of violence.
Reacting to the death of the 54-year-old musician from Manipur, Rahul Gandhi said that Singh was allegedly beaten to death after he objected to a group of men creating noise outside his home.
Chongtham Vikram Singh ji, a renowned musician from Manipur, went downstairs to ask some men to lower the noise outside his home. He was beaten to death for it.

“After many such incidents, every Northeast family in Delhi is asking the same question are we safe here?” Gandhi said.
He also questioned, “What are Shah’s MHA and Delhi Police doing to stop this growing lawlessness, especially against people from the Northeast?”
The Congress leader demanded immediate action and said those responsible must be brought to justice.
According to police, the incident took place in Kilokari village under the Sunlight Colony police station area. Singh had reportedly confronted a group of men who were allegedly creating a disturbance outside his residence.
Police said Singh suffered serious injuries during the assault. His son rushed him to a hospital, where he later died during treatment.
The Delhi Police have arrested seven accused persons and detained a juvenile in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
Congress leader Pawan Khera also targeted the government, alleging that repeated incidents of violence reflected a growing culture of lawlessness.
Khera said the government must ensure strict enforcement of law and accountability in cases involving public safety.
The North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU), expressed grief over Singh’s death and described him as a respected Manipuri musician.
The incident has sparked concerns among members of the Northeast community living in Delhi, with demands for a fair probe and strict punishment for those involved.
