New Delhi: The 2026 Assam Assembly elections witnessed a tremendous voter turnout this time around. Approximately 85.96% voting was recorded across the 126 seats, indicating that the public participated enthusiastically. Now, all eyes are fixed on the results scheduled to be declared on May 4th.

In this election, the direct contest is perceived to be between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance and the Indian National Congress (Congress) alliance. The BJP campaigned on the issues of development and stability, while the Congress targeted the government over rising inflation and unemployment.

What Does the MATRIZE Exit Poll Say?

According to MATRIZE, the BJP alliance is projected to secure 85–95 seats—a figure significantly higher than the simple majority mark of 64. The Congress alliance is projected to be limited to 25–32 seats, while other parties may secure 6–12 seats.

In terms of vote share, the BJP is estimated to receive approximately 45.5% of the votes, while the Congress is projected to receive 39.8%. These figures clearly demonstrate that the BJP enjoys strong support within the state.

AXIS MY INDIA Signals the Same Trend

The exit poll conducted by Axis My India presents a nearly identical picture. In their projections, the BJP alliance is estimated to win between 88 and 100 seats, while the Congress is projected to secure between 24 and 36 seats. Both major surveys point in the same direction—a return to power for the BJP.

Voting Trends Among Women

According to the exit polls, the inclination of female voters also appears to lean heavily toward the BJP.

The BJP alliance is projected to receive approximately 55% of the female vote, while the Congress is estimated to garner around 37% support from this demographic.

Are the Signals Clear?

These figures highlight three key takeaways:

  • The BJP alliance holds a clear lead.
  • The Congress appears to be trailing significantly.
  • The influence of other parties remains limited.

It is important to bear in mind that exit polls are merely projections. On several occasions, they have proven to be incorrect. Therefore, the actual results on May 4th will ultimately determine which government is formed in Assam.

Currently, exit polls point towards a strong return for the BJP alliance. However, the final verdict will be delivered by the public's votes, the outcome of which will be revealed on the day of the vote count.
