Kolkata: With the Bharatiya Janata Party preparing to form its first-ever government in West Bengal, intense discussions are underway over the selection of the next chief minister and cabinet formation.
The BJP legislative party meeting scheduled in Kolkata on Friday evening is expected to play a decisive role in finalising the leadership. Party insiders say the BJP leadership is approaching the decision cautiously, considering both political and social equations before announcing the chief ministerial face.

The move is being viewed as crucial for shaping the party’s long-term strategy in Bengal after its landmark electoral victory.
According to sources, the BJP is likely to adopt a “Gujarat Model”-style cabinet structure focused on social engineering, regional representation and administrative stability. The party is reportedly working on balancing leaders from north Bengal, Junglemahal, south Bengal and urban regions to ensure broader political outreach.
The proposed cabinet is also expected to combine experienced leaders with younger faces to strengthen governance as well as grassroots connect. BJP strategists believe such a structure could help establish a stable political framework in Bengal similar to the party’s governance model in Gujarat.
While speculation over the chief minister’s name continues, several senior BJP leaders are being discussed for major cabinet responsibilities. Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is expected to play a central role in the new government. If not chosen as chief minister, he could reportedly be assigned powerful portfolios such as Home or Finance.

Other names likely to feature prominently in the cabinet include state BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, and senior party leader Dilip Ghosh, all of whom are seen as influential figures within the party organisation.
Preparations have already begun for the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government, expected to take place on Saturday morning at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground.
Party leaders, chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, senior central leaders and thousands of supporters are expected to attend the event. BJP workers are also planning a large-scale public gathering aimed at showcasing the party’s historic rise in Bengal politics.
