New Delhi: Congress has reacted sharply to US President Donald Trump’s remarks on India’s voting system and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera took a sarcastic dig at Trump, saying he should take CEC Gyanesh Kumar and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to America.
In a post on social media platform X, Pawan Khera wrote, “Dear Donald Trump, please take Gyanesh Kumar Gupta to America and keep him there. We will send our EVMs too by the next available flight.”
Dear @realDonaldTrump,
Please take Gyanesh Kumar Gupta to America. And keep him there. We will send our EVMs too by the next available flight.
For all the insults and bullying you’ve sent our way, this is the least we can do for you.

He added that this would be a response to what he called America’s “insults and bullying” towards India. Khera ended his post with the line, “To SIR With Love, from India.”
The Congress reaction came after Donald Trump again raised concerns over voter identification laws in the US and referred to India’s election system while supporting the proposed SAVE America Act.
Trump claimed that India’s elections involve strict voter identification requirements and argued that the US should adopt similar measures.
Trump said that India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had questioned how elections could be conducted in the US without valid photo identification.
He also highlighted India’s large voter base and said that a majority of Indian voters use valid photo identity documents during elections.
The opposition in India has been criticising CEC Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that genuine voters could be removed from voter lists.
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have previously raised allegations related to “vote chori” and questioned the Election Commission’s functioning.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act seeks stricter voter registration rules in the United States, including proof of citizenship for voter registration and photo identification requirements during voting.
The bill has passed the US House of Representatives but faces challenges in the Senate.
