Trisha’s Independence Day Event Appearance (Img: X)
Chennai: A political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu after the DMK targeted Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay over actor Trisha Krishnan’s presence at the Independence Day celebrations held at Fort St George in Chennai.
The DMK’s official newspaper Murasoli published a sharply worded editorial questioning the seating arrangement and the viral visuals of Vijay and Trisha exchanging salutes during the official event.
Trisha Krishnan attended the 80th Independence Day celebrations and was seated in the front row alongside Vijay’s parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar.
Videos from the event showed Trisha saluting Vijay as he walked past while carrying out his official duties as Chief Minister.
The DMK mouthpiece criticised the scene, questioning whether such an interaction was appropriate during an official government programme.

In its editorial, Murasoli claimed that many people who voted for Vijay could not accept an actress sitting in the front row and exchanging salutes with the Chief Minister.
The article said that a person who tries to justify such a situation is now holding the position of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
The editorial also claimed that even some supporters of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) were unhappy with the incident.
Trisha’s appearance at Vijay’s official events has attracted attention in recent months.
She was also present during Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony earlier this year, where she was seen alongside other guests.
The duo’s friendship has often been discussed publicly, especially amid reports surrounding Vijay’s personal life. Vijay’s wife Sangeetha had earlier filed a divorce petition citing allegations of mental cruelty, emotional neglect and other issues, though the plea was later withdrawn.

During the Independence Day celebrations, Chief Minister Vijay thanked freedom fighters and spoke about his government’s priorities.
“It is our duty to protect Tamil Nadu from bribery and corruption. That is what our government is working towards,” Vijay said while addressing the gathering.
He also urged people to continue supporting his government, saying that public participation was necessary to implement welfare schemes.
Vijay’s party TVK has not yet issued an official response to the DMK’s criticism.
The controversy has added another political flashpoint in Tamil Nadu, where Vijay’s newly formed party is preparing to strengthen its position in state politics.
