Kolkata: A fresh FIR has been registered against Mamata Banerjee over controversial remarks linked to the murder of Bangladeshi student leader Osman Bin Hadi. The complaint was lodged at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station by advocate Rinky Sen Chatterjee, who accused the Trinamool Congress chief of making inflammatory and anti-national comments during a public event.
According to the complaint, Banerjee’s remarks had the potential to create diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh and could generate confusion regarding India’s role in the sensitive cross-border murder case.

The controversy stems from statements made by Banerjee during a TMC protest programme held at Dharmatala in Kolkata on June 2.
While addressing party workers, Banerjee claimed she knew the “entire conspiracy” behind a high-profile murder in Bangladesh and was aware of the identities involved. However, she stated that revealing details publicly could trigger unrest in the neighbouring country.
Her comments were widely linked to the murder of Osman Bin Hadi, a Bangladeshi student leader whose killing had drawn major political attention in Bangladesh. The complaint alleges that Banerjee indirectly referred to the role of India’s Union Home Ministry and Amit Shah while discussing the matter.
Advocate Rinky Sen Chatterjee, in her complaint, argued that such statements could negatively affect diplomatic ties between New Delhi and Dhaka.
The FIR reportedly accuses Banerjee of making provocative comments that may encourage misunderstanding and hostility over a matter involving international implications. Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the next steps in the investigation.
According to official accounts, Osman Bin Hadi was killed in Bangladesh in December last year. The murder case became politically sensitive and attracted widespread attention across the country.

Investigators later claimed that some accused individuals crossed into India through the Meghalaya border before reaching West Bengal, where they were eventually arrested by the state’s Special Task Force (STF).
The arrests had earlier figured prominently in discussions related to border security and India-Bangladesh cooperation on cross-border crime.
The latest FIR has further intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Political observers believe the controversy could trigger fresh debate around national security, border issues and diplomatic sensitivity ahead of upcoming political battles in West Bengal.
