Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge
New Delhi: “Everyone says it would be better if I become Chief Minister. Sonia Gandhi will make most of the decisions in the party. But such a question will not arise at present as there is already a Chief Minister in the State.”
With this statement, Mallikarjun Kharge firmly dismissed speculation about a possible leadership change in Karnataka, signaling stability over political buzz.
Kharge emphasized that any major decision within the Congress party rests with senior leadership, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He made it clear that leadership matters are not decided individually but through collective deliberation.
His remarks came after Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara suggested he would welcome Kharge as Chief Minister. While such comments have fueled speculation, Kharge chose to downplay them and maintain party discipline.
Highlighting that Karnataka already has a sitting Chief Minister, Kharge stressed that there is no immediate need for leadership change. His stance reflects an effort to prevent internal uncertainty and maintain governance continuity.
Kharge reiterated that the Congress party remains committed to its ideology and collective functioning. Any leadership-related concerns, he noted, will be addressed through proper channels and discussions—not public speculation
