New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party a day after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party, intensifying the political crisis within the party.

She was among seven MPs, including Raghav Chadha, who announced their decision to leave AAP and align with the BJP.

Serious Allegations Against Kejriwal

Explaining her decision, Maliwal levelled grave allegations against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. She claimed that she was physically assaulted at his residence and later pressured to withdraw a police complaint. According to her, she faced intimidation when she attempted to speak out about the incident.

Maliwal said she had been associated with Kejriwal since 2006 and had supported the party through various political movements, making her exit particularly significant.

Claims of Being Silenced in Parliament

The former AAP leader also alleged that she was denied opportunities to speak in Parliament for nearly two years. She described this as deeply unfair and indicative of a lack of internal democracy within the party. Maliwal further accused Kejriwal of being “anti-women,” adding that her concerns were repeatedly ignored.

Criticism of AAP Governance

Maliwal extended her criticism to AAP’s governance, particularly in Punjab. She alleged that the party leadership exercises remote control over the state government and raised concerns about rising illegal activities, including sand mining and drug use. She also claimed that dissenting voices within the party are suppressed through legal pressure.

Praises BJP Leadership

Defending her move, Maliwal said she joined the BJP voluntarily and expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. She described him as a globally respected leader and credited his government for key policy decisions, including measures related to national security and women’s empowerment.
