TN polls enter crucial phase as nomination deadline ends today
Chennai: The race for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is entering a crucial phase, as the deadline for filing nominations ends today, sparking a last-minute rush among candidates across the state.
According to the Election Commission of India, over 3,400 nominations have already been filed, with the final count expected to rise significantly by the end of the day.
Surge Expected on Final Day
Several high-profile leaders are set to file their nominations today, intensifying the political contest. Among them is Edappadi K. Palaniswami, along with senior leaders like KP Munusamy, SP Velumani, and Dindigul C. Srinivasan.
From the BJP camp, key figures including Nainar Nagenthran, L. Murugan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, and Vanathi Srinivasan are also expected to enter the fray.

The data reflects a male-dominated field, with 2,731 male candidates compared to 698 women candidates. Notably, one third-gender candidate has filed a nomination from Villivakkam, marking a step toward inclusive representation.
Constituency Highlights
Karur has recorded the highest number of nominations (84), driven by intense competition and a large number of Independent candidates.
Madurai South has seen the lowest activity, with just three nominations so far.
