New Delhi: The political battle over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has intensified after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a fresh attack on the Election Commission, alleging concerns over the electoral roll revision process.

Vote chori is a crime against the Indian people and a direct attack on our constitution.

Addressing the issue, Rahul Gandhi warned those involved in alleged electoral irregularities, saying, “Time aayega, hum aapko pakdenge”. His remarks came amid Opposition criticism over the functioning of the Election Commission and questions surrounding the SIR exercise.

Rahul Gandhi has been accusing the poll authorities of failing to address concerns related to voter lists, while the Election Commission has rejected allegations of wrongdoing and maintained that electoral processes are conducted according to established rules.

Manish Tewari, John Brittas join Opposition criticism

The issue gained further political momentum after other Opposition leaders also reacted to the SIR controversy.

Congress MP Manish Tewari raised concerns over the voter roll revision process, alleging that there were questions regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. He demanded greater scrutiny of the exercise and questioned the process through which electoral changes are carried out.

CPI(M) MP John Brittas also targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, referring to reports claiming objections were raised by Election Commissioners over certain SIR-related decisions.

Opposition leaders question transparency

The controversy follows reports claiming that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections over some decisions linked to the SIR process.

The reports triggered reactions from several Opposition leaders, who sought clarity over the decision-making process within the poll panel.

Congress leaders said the issue concerns the credibility of electoral institutions, while other Opposition parties demanded transparency in voter list revision.

Election Commission maintains decisions were collective

The Election Commission has rejected reports of internal differences and said all decisions related to SIR and other matters were taken collectively.

The poll body has maintained that electoral roll revision is a routine process conducted under legal provisions to update voter information and remove discrepancies.

Political fight over SIR continues

The SIR process has now become a major political issue, with Rahul Gandhi leading the Opposition’s attack and several leaders joining the debate.

While the Opposition continues to raise questions over transparency, the Election Commission has defended its procedures, keeping the focus on voter verification, electoral reforms and institutional functioning.
