New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list that dates back to 2003. This is the most extensive review of the electoral rolls in more than two decades.

The revision process began on November 4, 2025, and is being implemented across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Its main objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen is correctly listed in the electoral database while removing duplicate, deceased, and migrated entries.

Officials said this revision is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process as the state prepares for future elections.

Why Is This Revision Important?

The SIR exercise is designed to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and accuracy in voter rolls. Over the years, millions of voters have moved, passed away, or reached voting age.

This revision will:

  • Add newly eligible voters who have turned 18.
  • Remove names of deceased or migrated citizens.
  • Eliminate duplicate or fake entries.
  • Correct spelling and address inconsistencies.

By doing so, the Election Commission aims to prevent electoral discrepancies and strengthen voter trust.
