Bihar: Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM reacted strongly to the controversy over “I Love Muhammad” posters in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, questioning why expressions of faith should be seen as provocative.

The ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign has seen widespread participation both online and on the streets. In reszponse to this saints in Varanasi have launched the 'I Love Mahadev' campaign. Devotees of Lord Shiva Shiva are now now choosing to permanently express their faith by getting 'I Love Mahadev' tattoos.

Owaisi compared this with hypothetical “I Love Mahadev” groups

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the controversy amounts to a form of social boycotting of Muslims and questioned what threat such posters pose.

He sarcastically suggested playing the song “Mohabbat Zindabad” from Mughal-e-Azam for critics, and compared the campaign to hypothetical “I Love Mahadev” groups to underline his point that love shouldn’t be criminalised.

What is anti-national here? Asks Owaisi

“If there is an ‘I Love Mahadev’ group then what is the problem? What is anti-national here? What sort of violence does this promote? If the word is ‘love’ then why is anyone having a problem? I think we have to play the ‘Mohabbat Zindabad’ song from Mughal-e-Azam for these people. If there can be a ‘Happy Birthday PM Modi’ poster then why can’t there be an ‘I Love Prophet Muhammad’ poster?” Asaduddin Owaisi told reporters in poll-bound Bihar's Purnea.
