New Delhi: Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday launched a strong political attack on the leadership of the Indian National Congress, alleging that the Gandhi family has repeatedly compromised national interests.

Addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in New Delhi, Goyal described the Gandhi family as a politically compromised family and criticised senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The minister also labelled Rahul Gandhi as a “poster boy of negative politics,” accusing him and the Congress party of repeatedly acting against the country’s interests.

Remarks Come After Youth Congress Protest

Goyal’s remarks came days after a protest organised by the Indian Youth Congress during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in the national capital. During the protest on February 20, Youth Congress members staged demonstrations and shouted slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The demonstration triggered a political controversy, with the BJP alleging that the protest created an embarrassing situation during an international event attended by global delegates and technology leaders.

Police later detained several individuals in connection with the protest and began questioning them as part of the investigation.

Allegations About Congress Leadership

During the press briefing, Goyal expanded his criticism beyond Rahul Gandhi and alleged that members of the Gandhi family had historically taken decisions that compromised national interests.

He referred to controversies linked to the tenure of former prime ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi while discussing past political developments and allegations surrounding earlier governments.

According to the minister, several historical controversies and political decisions had raised questions about the functioning of the Congress leadership.

Political Tensions Intensify

The remarks have further intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress. While the BJP has accused the opposition of damaging the country’s image through protests and political campaigns, Congress leaders have defended their right to protest and raise issues concerning government policies.

The exchange of accusations highlights the continuing rivalry between the two major political parties as political tensions remain high ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
