Big Blow to Naxalism: 4 Senior Maoist Commanders Lay Down Arms in Telangana

In a significant development, this afternoon, four important Maoist Naxals along with their cadres officially surrendered before the Telangana Police Chief, DGP Shivdhar Reddy. At the press meet, the surrendered Naxals shared their views and explained the reasons for laying down arms.

Hyderabad: One of the top leaders of the banned Maoist Naxal outfit, Tippiri Tirupati, alias Devji, along with his cadres, surrendered before the police here at an official function presided over by the Telangana Police Chief, DGP Shivdhar Reddy. Besides him, three more top leaders of the Central Committee also surrendered before the police today.

According to Dynamite News correspondent, B. Chokka Rao, N. Narasimha Reddy, and M. Raj Reddy were the top leaders among those who laid down their arms, along with their cadres, before the media at a press meet here.

DGP Calls It a Major Breakthrough

Welcoming their surrender, DGP Shivdhar Reddy said that another 11 senior Naxals are still underground and expressed hope that they will surrender soon. The DGP said that the development is one of the biggest breakthroughs in recent times and comes ahead of Home Minister Amit Shah’s March 2026 deadline to eliminate Naxalism in India.

The DGP distributed cheques to the four senior Naxals at the press meet. A record number of 2,337 Maoists have surrendered since last year amid a crackdown by security forces in Telangana. According to the police, 40 Maoists, including 11 seniors from the state, are still at large.

Reasons Behind the Surrender

At the press meet, the Naxals answered several questions put by the media and said several factors contributed to their surrender, including health issues. They also opined that the Naxal movement was gradually fizzling out in forest areas, with police using modern combing technology.
