New Delhi: Speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka has resurfaced after Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar arrived in Delhi on Sunday. His visit has drawn attention amid ongoing political discussions within the state unit of the Indian National Congress.
Shivakumar travelled to the national capital along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge from Bengaluru earlier in the day. Party sources indicated that Shivakumar is expected to meet senior Congress leaders to discuss recent political developments in Karnataka.
Apart from serving as the Deputy Chief Minister, Shivakumar also heads the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

The renewed speculation comes amid discussions that the Congress leadership could review the state’s political leadership after the presentation of the 2026-27 state budget.
The current legislative session in Karnataka is scheduled to continue until March 27. Some political observers believe that internal discussions regarding the leadership structure could take place after the session concludes.
Loyalists Back Shivakumar for Top Post
In recent days, several legislators considered close to Shivakumar reportedly held a dinner meeting where they discussed approaching the party high command in Delhi.
According to sources, some lawmakers have expressed their support for Shivakumar and indicated they may request the party leadership to consider him for the position of Chief Minister. The developments have added momentum to ongoing political chatter about potential changes within the state government.
Siddaramaiah Dismisses Exit Talk
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the speculation while speaking to reporters in Mysuru. He stated that he would continue in the post as long as the Congress high command wanted him to remain in office. His remarks signalled that no immediate leadership transition had been officially discussed.

Sources also indicated that Shivakumar is planning to host a dinner meeting for Congress MLAs and MLCs on March 10. The gathering is expected to mark the completion of his six years as the state Congress president.
