Telangana: Mother, two children killed after being run over by goods train in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A mother and her two children, died allegedly by suicide on the outskirts of Charlapalli Railway Station here in Hyderabad. They "jumped" in front of a goods train in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Penaty Vijaya (38) a software employee, and her two children, Chetana Reddy (18), and Vishal Reddy (17).Both the children are students. The family was the resident of Harithavanam Colony in Boduppal.

A railway official said, "Suicidal Death case occurred on the outskirts of Charlapalli Railway Station at KM No.207/2 MMTS Line on 31 January at about 0040 hours"

Further details are awaited while the investigation is underway.

Police have identified the deceased as a woman employed in the IT sector and her two children-an 18-year-old daughter pursuing Class 12 and a 17-year-old son studying in Class 11. The family resided in Harithaharam Colony at Boduppal in Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

According to a senior official of the Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP), preliminary findings point towards suicide. No railway tickets were found at the scene, suggesting the family had no intention of undertaking a train journey.

Bodies sent for post-mortem

The bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have informed relatives of the incident and will record their statements to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the deaths.

The woman’s husband, who is employed with a ceramic firm in Nellore, was reportedly away from home when the incident occurred.

No signs of financial hardship

Initial enquiries with neighbours have not revealed any evidence of financial distress. Police said the woman had a steady source of income and the children were enrolled in well-known educational institutions.

The Secunderabad GRP has registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which pertains to enquiries into cases of suspected suicide or accidental death.
