Over 97 lakh electors have been deleted from the voters lists in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: After the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise undertaken by the Election Commission on the orders of the Supreme Court ahead of Assembly polls in April, Tamil Nadu has a total of 5.67 crores.

Releasing the final electoral rolls at a press meet on Monday at the state secretariat, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said there are 5, 67,07,380 electors across the state, as per the final electoral roll.

This include 2,77,38, 925 Men, 289,60 838 Women and 7,617 third gender voters. Women constitute 12 lakh more than men electorate in the state. Over 97 lakh electors have been deleted from the voters lists in Tamil Nadu as part of the ongoing SIR of the electoral rolls.

The revision process also followed a January 30 direc from the Election Commission, issued pursuant to a Supreme Court order, mandating that names deleted due to conflicting or inconsistent information figuring in the category of " logical discrepancies " be publicly displayed along with the reasons for removal.
