

Afghanistan kicked off Asia Cup 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Hong Kong by 94 runs. With explosive batting and disciplined bowling, team register its biggest win in Asia Cup.

Abu Dhabi: The Asia Cup 2025 journey off to a flying start. Afghanistan with a huge 94-run win over Hong Kong. It was Afghanistan's biggest win ever in the T20 Asia Cup, and the third-largest margin by runs in the tournament’s history.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to bat first and put up 188 runs in 20 overs. The start wasn’t too flashy, but things picked up quickly once Siddiqueullah Atar and Azmatullah Omarzai came to the crease.

Siddiqueullah stayed unbeaten on 73 off 47 balls, hitting some shots all around the ground. While, Omarzai was even more aggressive, scoring 53 off just 21 balls. Their partnership gave Afghanistan a strong finish.
Chasing 189, Hong Kong’s innings never really got going. Team lost five wickets for just 43 runs. The team was bowled out for 94, handing Afghanistan a comfortable win by the same margin.
For Hong Kong Babar Hayat top-scored batsman with 39 from 43 balls, but his slow strike rate didn’t help team that much in the match. while, Captain Yaseen Murtaza scored only 16 runs, and the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t even cross double digit against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s bowlers did a great job. Five different bowlers took wickets, making sure Hong Kong never got a chance to settle. Their tight lines and smart variations made scoring tough and kept the pressure on Hong Kong throughout the innings.
This win was a special one for Afghanistan. Team broke its previous record of a 66-run win against Hong Kong in the 2016 Asia Cup. Now with this 94-run victory, team set a new high.

In the overall Asia Cup T20 records, Pakistan is on the top of the list with its 155-run win over Hong Kong. Now Afghanistan’s performance ranks third in that list and it’s a strong message to other teams in the tournament that team is ready to fight with any strong team.
