New Delhi: Following the conclusion of the Asia Cup 2025, a dispute erupted between India and Pakistan outside the cricket field. This time, the dispute centered on the trophy, surprising cricket fans. India won the Asia Cup but was denied the trophy.

In the final match held on September 28th, the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, achieved a resounding victory, but what followed was astonishing. The Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

This angered Naqvi, and he left the stadium with the trophy. As a result, India has not received its Asia Cup trophy to this day.

BCCI is upset by Naqvi's decision

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is extremely upset by this development. The BCCI clearly states that the trophy is not Naqvi's personal property and must be returned to India, as India was the winner of the tournament.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also stated that Naqvi had no right to present the trophy himself. The BCCI is now preparing to take the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The BCCI wants Naqvi removed from his position as a director at the ICC and censured for his inappropriate behavior.

Trophy Locked at ACC Headquarters

According to a PTI report, the trophy is still kept at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters, and Naqvi has given strict instructions that the trophy should neither be removed nor handed over to India unless he personally authorizes it. This behavior is considered against the dignity and spirit of cricket.

Tension in India-Pakistan Matches

India and Pakistan faced each other three times in this Asia Cup, and a tense atmosphere prevailed between the two teams throughout the tournament. The Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor further heightened the political sensitivity of these matches.

The first major controversy occurred on September 14th, when Indian players refused to shake hands with Pakistani players. Following this, the Pakistani team began making political gestures.

There were verbal altercations between player Harris Rauf and India's Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. The trophy controversy following the Asia Cup 2025 final has made it clear that there is still considerable bitterness in India-Pakistan cricket relations.

The BCCI is now planning to raise this issue internationally, which could significantly impact Mohsin Naqvi's role in the future.
