New Delhi: Great news has come out for cricket lovers. Cricket's return to the Los Angeles Olympics of 2028 has been decided. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially included cricket in the Olympic Games. These matches will be played in T20 format, which is the most exciting and popular format of cricket, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Matches will be played in Pomona city

Cricket matches in the 2028 Olympics will be played at the Fairgrounds Stadium in the city of Pomona, USA, which is located about 50 km from Los Angeles. The matches commence on July 12, 2028, while medals for award winners will be held on 20 and 29 July. The organizers have also clarified that there will be no match on July 14 and 21, while double headers (two matches a day) will be played on the rest of the days.

6-6 teams will take part; 180 players will show prowess

A total of 6-6 teams of men and women will participate in this historic return. That is, in total, 12 teams will enter the field, and each team will have a squad of 15 players. Accordingly, a total of 180 players will be part of this global event in T20 format.

Cricket returns in Olympics after 124 years

Cricket in the Olympics was included in the Paris Olympics only once in 1900. At that time only two teams played the match, Great Britain and France, in which Britain won and won the gold medal. Since then, cricket has never been re-included in the Olympics. Now the return of cricket after 124 years has filled the sports world.

Cricket's popularity gains traction in America

The recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup was hosted by the United States and West Indies, with several matches played in cities like Grand Prairie, Lauderhill, and New York. The event proved that cricket is becoming increasingly popular in America too. In such a situation, the return of cricket to the Olympics is being considered a right and strategic step.

IOC approves five new games

Apart from cricket, IOC has also approved the inclusion of baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash in the 2028 Olympics. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said, "When the world comes here for these games, we will organize something that will be memorable and inspiring for all."
