New Delhi: Gulveer Singh, Indian long-distance runner had created a new record on Saturday, 1 August by becoming first Indian to win a medal in the men's 5000m at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Singh won bronze medal for India, he has earlier won a silver medal in the men's 10,000m race.
Singh has also become the first Indian track and field athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Singh stood at third position in the men's 5000m final with a timing of 13:24.95 on the day of the athletics competition whereas Kenya's Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang won the gold medal for completing the track in 13:23.61 and Australia's Ky Robinson won the silver with a time of 13:24.70.
