New Delhi: In the first match of the Women's T20 series played in Nottingham, the Indian women's cricket team performed strongly and defeated England by 97 runs and started the series with a bang. The biggest hero of this victory was Captain Smriti Mandhana, who not only won the hearts of the audience with her stormy batting but also took the team to a huge score.

Played a tremendous century innings

After winning the toss and batting first, the Indian team had a great start. The pair of Captain Mandhana and Shefali Verma added a quick 77 runs for the first wicket. Although Shefali Verma was out after scoring 20 runs, Smriti Mandhana held one end and played a tremendous century innings of 112 runs in 62 balls while batting explosively. In this inning, she hit 15 fours and 3 sixes.

She was supported by Harleen Deol, who strengthened the score by scoring 43 runs in just 23 balls. The entire Indian team together scored 210 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, which was considered a big score against England.

England's start

In response, England had a very bad start. Both their openers were out cheaply in the very first overs. The entire England team collapsed for 113 runs. Only captain Nat Sciver-Brunt could struggle a bit, who scored 66 runs, but she did not get any support from the other end. Only three England batsmen could cross the double-digit mark.

India's bowling was impressive

The most impressive bowling performance from India was Shri Charani, who took 4 wickets for 12 runs in 3.5 overs and broke the back of England. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav took 2-2 wickets, while Amanjot Kaur and Arundhati Reddy got 1-1 success.

With this win, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. Captain Smriti Mandhana was chosen as the 'Player of the Match' for her brilliant century. This victory will not only boost the team's confidence but will also raise hopes of even better performances in the upcoming matches.
