New Delhi: The Indian Premier League has introduced stricter security measures this season, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) placing a ban on smart glasses and several wearable devices inside restricted match zones.

The latest advisory has been issued to players, support staff, and match officials as part of efforts to prevent unauthorized communication, live streaming, and potential corruption-related activities during matches.

Concerns Over Live Streaming and Communication

According to sources, the ACSU raised concerns that modern wearable devices, including smart glasses, are capable of connecting to mobile data and Wi-Fi networks. These devices can be used for live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, and making audio or video calls.

Officials believe such features could pose serious risks during matches by enabling unauthorized communication or misuse of sensitive information. Under the minimum standards for the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA), these devices have been categorized as both communication tools and audio-video recording equipment.

Strict Rules Inside Restricted Match Areas

The ACSU has clearly stated that carrying or using smart glasses and similar wearable technology inside the PMOA is strictly prohibited. Players and support staff have been instructed to deposit all such devices before entering restricted areas on match days.

In addition to mobile phones and smartwatches, any wearable technology falling under the banned category must also be handed over to the designated Security Liaison Officer. The advisory further warns that failure to comply with the rules will be treated as a violation of PMOA protocols.

Penalties for Violations

The BCCI has stated that any player or staff member found carrying restricted devices inside the designated areas may face disciplinary action under IPL 2026 operational regulations.

The board emphasized that the move is aimed at maintaining the integrity of the tournament and strengthening anti-corruption safeguards. The stricter monitoring measures reflect the league’s continued focus on preventing spot-fixing, unauthorized communication, and security breaches during one of the world’s biggest cricket tournaments.
