Guwahati: The defining story of this match was its beginning. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals (RR) posted a massive 150 runs in just 11 overs—a colossal total considering the brevity of the match. In response, Mumbai Indians (MI) got off to a disastrous start. The team lost several key wickets during the Powerplay itself, effectively sealing the fate of the match right then and there.
Mumbai Indians' batsmen appeared under pressure right from the outset. Rohit Sharma was dismissed early. Suryakumar Yadav, too, failed to last long at the crease. Hardik Pandya was also unable to play a substantial innings.
The team continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, and the pressure on the scoreboard mounted steadily. At one point, it seemed as though MI might stage a comeback; however, every time they showed signs of recovery, another wicket would fall.
Rajasthan Royals' bowlers delivered a magnificent performance. Jofra Archer troubled the batsmen with his pace and precision. Ravi Bishnoi claimed crucial wickets that tilted the match in RR's favor. Sandeep Sharma and Nandre Burger also provided excellent support. Each bowler struck at the right moment, denying Mumbai any opportunity to recover.
The Mumbai Indians team continued to fight until the very end, but the soaring required run rate made victory an uphill task. With 35 runs needed in the final over, a win became virtually impossible. Ultimately, Rajasthan Royals secured a splendid 27-run victory.
The single biggest difference in this match was the power play. RR scored runs rapidly during the Powerplay. MI, conversely, lost their key wickets during that very same period. This is precisely why the match turned out to be a one-sided affair.
