Guwahati: The second Test between India and South Africa is being played in Guwahati from Saturday. Rishabh Pant will captain Team India in this match.

Shubman Gill was unable to play in this Test due to injury. Gill was ruled out of the second Test after suffering a neck injury during the first Test. Sai Sudharshan was included in the playing XI in his place.

Pant provided an injury update

During the toss, Pant stated that Gill was very eager to play the match, but his body was not allowing it at the moment.

Pant said, "Shubman is recovering slowly. He was very eager to play the match. But at the same time, his body was not allowing it. He will return stronger than before."

Gill has been released from the squad and will travel to Mumbai for recovery. He will not meet directly with the physio at the BCCI CoE, but will report to Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.

Gill's Injury History

Gill was hospitalized after the second day of the first Test. He sustained the injury while attempting a sweep shot. He retired hurt and watched the match from the bench. He was taken to the hospital after being fitted with a neck brace. After a two-day hospital stay, he was discharged on Sunday. Although he arrived in Guwahati with the team on Wednesday, he was ruled out of the second Test on the eve of the match.

Team Changes and Substitutes

In Shubman Gill's absence, Sai Sudarshan was included in his place in the batting order. Team management stated that Gill will not return to the team until his recovery is complete.

Pant also assured that Gill will return fit and stronger than before. The rest of the team is practicing in Guwahati and preparing their match strategy.

Hope for a future return

According to experts, Gill's injury is not serious, and with proper care and physical therapy, he could return to Team India soon. Pant and the team management stated that the player's health comes first, and his strong return will be a major advantage for the team.
