New Delhi: A major controversy erupted after the fourth match of the ongoing tri-series in Sri Lanka, where India A suffered a heartbreaking Super Over defeat against Sri Lanka A. Following the match, an altercation broke out between Indian youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage.

According to reports, the match referee filed a complaint against both players after reviewing the incident. An inquiry was subsequently conducted, and both cricketers were found guilty of breaching conduct standards.

Both Players Fined 50% of Match Fees

As a result of the investigation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Vishen Halambage have reportedly been fined 50 percent of their respective match fees.

Sri Lankan news outlet reports claimed that the referee submitted a detailed report to cricket authorities, outlining the events that led to the confrontation.

Since the tri-series is not being conducted by the ICC, the final decision was reportedly taken jointly by officials from the two participating cricket boards rather than through ICC disciplinary mechanisms.

No Official Statement Yet

So far, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India nor Sri Lanka Cricket has issued an official statement regarding the reported fine.

However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier emphasized that all players, including Vaibhav, should remain focused on their cricket.

What Triggered the Altercation?

The incident occurred moments after Sri Lanka A secured victory in the Super Over. During the celebrations, some Sri Lankan players reportedly directed remarks toward Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Reports suggest that Vishen Halambage repeatedly exchanged words with the young Indian batter, causing tensions to escalate. The verbal exchange soon turned into a brief physical confrontation before other Sri Lankan players stepped in to separate the two and calm the situation.

The incident has attracted significant attention given Suryavanshi's status as one of India's most promising young cricket talents.
