New Delhi: South African cricketer Wiaan Mulder has created a new record in Test cricket. He made history by scoring a stunning triple century in the Bulawayo Test against Zimbabwe. Now, he has become the batsman to score the largest individual innings for South Africa in Test cricket. Mulder played an unbeaten 367 runs from 334 balls, consisting of 49 fours and 4 sixes. With this innings, he shattered Hashim Amla's record of 311* runs that he scored against England in 2012, according to Dynamite News correspondent.

This score is also the largest innings of a visiting batsman in Test history. Mulder overtook Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad, who played 337 runs against the West Indies in 1958. Mulder now became the batsman to play the fourth largest innings in the history of Test cricket after Brian Lara (400* and 375), Matthew Hayden (380), and Mahela Jayawardene (374).

Did not break the record for the sake of the team

Mulder was in a position to beat the world record of 400* runs by Brian Lara, but he gave consideration to the interest of the team and declared the innings at 626/5 before the second session of the second day. Without the presence of Keshav Maharaj, Mulder was also assigned the task of captaincy in this Test match.

Record after record

Wian Mulder is just the second South African Test batsman to have made a triple century. Hashim Amla had done so previously. Mulder finished his triple century in 297 balls, second quickest triple century in Test cricket. The quickest triple century was achieved by Virender Sehwag in 278 balls (2008, vs. South Africa).

Mulder completed the double century in 214 balls, which is the second fastest double century for South Africa. Herschelle Gibbs is first in this list (in 211 balls vs Pakistan, 2003). On the first day of the Test, he made 264 runs, the most by a South African player in a single day and the second-most in Test history.

Important partnerships

Mulder partnered David Bedingham in 184 and Luan-Dre Pretorius in 217. He batted at position three for South Africa in their first innings.

Highest scores by an individual in tests abroad:

367 – Wiaan Mulder* (South Africa) against Zimbabwe, Bulawayo, 2025

337 – Hanif Mohammad (Pakistan) against West Indies, Barbados, 1958

336* – Wally Hammond (England) against New Zealand, Auckland, 1933

334* – Mark Taylor (Australia) against Pakistan, Peshawar, 1998

334 – Don Bradman (Australia) against England, Headingley, 1930

Through this rare innings, Wiaan Mulder has not just set a personal milestone but etched his name in the annals of South African cricket history.
