Imphal /31 March 2016. Shree Govindajee temple is considered as one of the largest Hindu Vaishnav temple at Imphal city in Manipur. It is also one of the attractive destination for tourists. It has a historic Vaishnavite center, adjoining Manipur's former Maharaja Palace.

Highlights
The temple is dedicated to the Lord Krishna, who is also known as Govinda. Tourist and holy pilgrims throng in great numbers to view the idols and offer prayer in the temple.
The idols of Lord Krishna and Radha are placed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The temple also houses the idols of Lord Jagathnath, Balaram and Subhadra. Morning prayer begin with Aarti.
Legend
Legend has it that Shree Govindjee came in a dream of Bheigyachandra, Maharaja of Manipur and ordered the installation of his idol carved out from jackfruit tree which was then growing in Kaina, 29 km from Imphal. Maharaja followed the order and carved the idol from the jackfruit tree.
Architecture
The temple has a captivating and charming architecture. The structure of the temple highlights rectangular late medieval period brick form. The temple has twin domes, a paved courtyard, and a large hall for the priests. The temple is 16.95 meters and a width of 18, 63 meters.
History
The temple was built in the year 1846 during the rule of Maharaja Nara Singh. Unfortunately the temple got damaged due to earthquake but it was restored back later by one of the ruler’s of Manipur, king Chandra Singh in 1869 AD.

Through Airlines: Indian Airlines, Indigo, Jet Airways, Air India connects Imphal–the capital of Manipur with major cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and silchar.
Through Railways: Dimapur(Nagaland) 215 km from Imphal is the nearest railway station.
Through Road : Imphal is connected by road with Guwahati (Assam) through national highway no.39 and silchar(Assam) through National highway no.53.
