The Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple is a treasure trove of Chola period sculptures in South India. The Gangaikonda Cholapuram or Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple is located in the Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu. The nearest airport is Trichirapalli or Trichy which is 89 km away.

The temple gets its name from the ancient city of Gangaikonda Cholapuram, which was the capital of the Chola dynasty for over 250 years. Our historians glorified Mughal invaders in our history books and never gave the true history of cholas.

It is part of the 'Three Great Chola Temples' along with the Airavastheswarar Temple and the Brihadeeswarar Temple. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the largest temples in India, Gangaikonda Cholapuram is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It is surprisingly for the real Tamil people, that not even a CM had visited the important temple celebration during the Aadi month or Ashad Maas or Sawan.
