Mumbai: A devastating fire broke out in the Vashi area of ​​Navi Mumbai late Tuesday night, tragically killing four people and injuring ten. The incident occurred at around 1 am in the Raheja Residency Housing Society in MG Complex, Sector 14, when most people were fast asleep after celebrating Diwali.

Fire Started On 10th floor

According to eyewitnesses, the fire first broke out on the 10th floor of the building and within moments, engulfed the 11th and 12th floors. The fire spread so rapidly that people had no time to recover. Smoke spread everywhere, trapping many people in their flats. Calls for help were made from balconies and windows.

Fire Department Rescue Operation

Several fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident. Firefighters used hydraulic lifts and ladders to safely evacuate dozens of people during the nearly two-hour rescue operation. Great efforts were made to extinguish the fire, but by then, six flats had been severely damaged.

Four Dead, Ten Injured

Four people lost their lives in this tragic accident, including a girl aged 5 to 7 years and an 87-year-old woman. The deceased are believed to be two women and two men. The ten injured have been admitted to the nearby MGM Hospital and Fortis Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Assistant Police Commissioner Adinath Budhwant said the cause of the fire is still unclear, but preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit. Forensic teams and fire brigade officials are closely examining the scene.

It is worth noting that this was the second major fire incident in Navi Mumbai on Diwali. Previously, a mother and daughter died in a fire following a cylinder blast in the Kamothe area. These two consecutive incidents have raised questions about the city's security system.
