New Delhi: Elon Musk's company's AI tool, Grok AI, has once again found itself embroiled in serious controversy. According to recent research, this AI has been used to create pornographic images on a large scale in a very short period of time. The report has sparked concern from social media to governments.

Claim of 3 million objectionable images in 11 days

According to estimates by the digital monitoring organization Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), Grok AI generated approximately 3 million pornographic images between December 29, 2025, and January 8, 2026. Approximately 23,000 of these images are claimed to feature children. The report stated that during this period, one such image was created every 41 seconds, which is a very serious matter from both legal and ethical perspectives.

Public and Celebrities Targeted

Research has also revealed that some users were uploading photos of unknown individuals and celebrities, prompting them to modify them into pornographic images. Grok AI was allegedly generating images based on such instructions without adequate restrictions. This has led to public anger and criticism from Elon Musk's AI tool.

Strong Reaction from Governments and Global Leaders

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the situation as "disgusting" and "shameful." His statement further increased pressure on the company. Countries like Indonesia and Malaysia have also announced bans or strict restrictions on Grok AI.

Company's Action: Limited Service to Paid Users

Amid the growing controversy, the company limited Grok AI's image generation feature to paid users only on January 9th. Social media platform X issued a statement stating that it is committed to creating a safe platform for everyone and will continue its zero-tolerance policy against pornographic content.

Growing Concerns and the Way Forward

With the rapid expansion of AI technology, such cases have raised serious questions about regulation and accountability. Experts believe that without strict regulations and strong safety guardrails, the misuse of such tools could increase. The Grok AI case could be a turning point in the future for tightening AI laws globally.
