New Delhi: In today's world, a mobile number is no longer limited merely to making calls. It is linked to banking services, OTPs, UPI, and social media platforms.
If a SIM card becomes inactive, several essential tasks can come to a halt; therefore, keeping it active is absolutely crucial.
According to the regulations set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), if there is no recharge or activity on a SIM card for an extended period, telecom companies will gradually begin to suspend its services.
How Long Does a SIM Remain Active?
Typically, a SIM card can remain active for approximately 90 days without a recharge. During this period, companies will continue to send you alerts via calls or text messages to ensure you have sufficient time to recharge your account.
First, outgoing calls and SMS services are suspended. Incoming services remain active for a certain period. If no recharge is performed even after this, incoming services are also discontinued. At this stage, you become completely disconnected from the network.
When a SIM card remains unused for a prolonged period, the telecom company permanently deactivates the number. Subsequently, that very number may be allotted to another user, meaning you could lose your number forever.
Keeping a SIM card active is no longer merely a matter of convenience; it has become a necessity. Even slight negligence can result in the deactivation of your number; therefore, recharging on time remains the most effective way to prevent this.
