Opposition Presidential election candidate Yashwant Sinha on Monday thanked the parties for choosing him as their candidate for the polls which he called a big battle.
The BJP expects cross-voting from opposition ranks, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, in favour of NDA presidential candidate Ramnath Kovind.
According to sources, Kumar had called up AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal herself two days to garner support from his party.
Kovind started his campaign for the election of the top post from his home state, Uttar Pradesh, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in absolute power.
“The battle which I am fighting at present is for the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. We have to take forward his ideology,” Meira Kumar said.
Ramnath Kovind arrived in the afternoon and hold a joint meeting with the MLAs of PDP, BJP and Peoples Conference.
“It’s not a symbolic fight, it will be a good, tough fight,” General Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI),” Suravaram Sudhakar said.
