Lucknow: The effects of a cold wave were clearly felt in several districts of Uttar Pradesh such as Etawah, Bareilly, Kanpur, Barabanki, and Amethi on Saturday. Day and night temperatures across the state were recorded well below normal, leading to a sudden increase in cold. The Meteorological Department has predicted a further drop in minimum temperatures in the next 24 hours.

Temperatures to fall further in next 24 hours

According to the Meteorological Department, a mild seasonal drop will continue over the next day. Cold wave-like conditions may persist during the night and morning in some parts of central Uttar Pradesh. However, with a change in wind direction from Monday, the drop in temperatures will begin to slow.

Northwesterly winds increase the cold

Meteorological Department scientist Dr. A.K. Singh said that while there is no active weather system in the state at present, dry and cold northwesterly winds coming from the western Himalayas are rapidly reducing night temperatures.

Clear skies have increased radiation cooling at night. The anticyclone over central India has increased the downward flow of cold winds. Due to all these factors, day and night temperatures have been recorded well below normal in many parts of the state over the past few days.

Sunshine provides partial relief

Although the cold wave's effects subside after sunshine, maximum temperatures remain 1 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal. Experts say this drop in temperatures is being felt across the state.

Relief after 17 November

According to weather experts, a change in wind direction from November 17th will halt the drop in temperatures and reduce the cold. This is expected to provide partial relief to people from cold wave-like conditions.

Light fog and haze in morning

The Meteorological Department has stated that light fog and haze may be observed in many parts of the state during this period, which may affect visibility for some time.
