Gorakhpur: A horrific road accident on Monday morning sent shockwaves across the southern region of Gorakhpur. At around 11 am, a speeding tractor crushed two youths riding a motorcycle on the Khajni-Gorakhpur main road near Jaitpur, resulting in one death on the spot and leaving the other critically injured.
The deceased has been identified as Rampal Chaudhary, son of Ram Sahay. The injured youth, Subodh, son of Banarasi Gautam, a resident of Pachauri under Harpur Budhat police station limits, sustained serious injuries and is currently battling for his life. According to eyewitnesses, the tractor was being driven recklessly by a minor, who lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the motorcycle. The impact was so severe that one of the youths died instantly, while the other was thrown onto the road, bleeding profusely. The horrifying scene triggered panic among locals, with blood scattered across the road.
On receiving information, police teams from GIDA and Khajni police stations rushed to the spot. The body of the deceased was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem, while the injured youth was referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment.
Following the accident, the tractor driver fled the scene, abandoning the tractor and trolley. Preliminary information suggests that the tractor was unregistered, further raising serious concerns about negligence and violations of traffic rules. Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding driver and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of underage driving and lax enforcement of road safety norms in the region.
