Gorakhpur (UP): A phone conversation between BJP MP Ravi Kishan and party councillor Vishwajeet Tripathi has become the centre of discussion on social media after a video of their exchange went viral. The conversation took place amid severe waterlogging problems in several parts of Gorakhpur following heavy rainfall.
The discussion which reportedly began over drainage issues soon turned into a political argument with both leaders exchanging sharp remarks during the call.
Heavy rainfall in Gorakhpur on Saturday disrupted normal life leaving several areas waterlogged. Residents faced difficulties due to accumulated rainwater, raising concerns over drainage management in different parts of the city. Amid the situation, BJP councillor Vishwajeet Tripathi held a meeting regarding water drainage issues in areas including Ramgarh Lake, Palm Paradise and Tarkulani. During the meeting, he contacted BJP MP Ravi Kishan over the phone to discuss the situation.
According to reports, the conversation initially focused on rainfall, waterlogging and efforts to improve drainage arrangements. However, the discussion later took a political turn. In the viral video, Ravi Kishan is allegedly heard questioning whether Vishwajeet Tripathi had joined the Samajwadi Party (SP).
The councillor responded with a sharp counter-question, reportedly asking the MP, “MP sir, have you joined BSP?” The exchange between the two leaders continued for some time with both sides expressing their views on the city’s water crisis and the ongoing situation.
After the video surfaced online it quickly gained attention among social media users. Many users shared reactions to the conversation while discussions began around the political remarks exchanged during the call. The authenticity and context of viral videos often become subjects of public discussion and the complete circumstances behind such exchanges remain important while assessing the claims.
Following the rainfall, Ravi Kishan visited several waterlogged locations in Gorakhpur and reviewed the situation on the ground. The BJP MP said that the Municipal Corporation and district administration were working under the guidance of UP CM Yogi Adityanath to address the problem.
He stated that CMwas regularly taking updates about the situation and monitoring the developments.
Ravi Kishan appealed to people to remain cautious during the heavy rains and avoid unnecessary travel. He said that the priority during such a situation should be ensuring public safety and managing the crisis rather than engaging in political disputes. The MP also urged residents to stay alert regarding lightning and other weather-related risks.
Highlighting the intensity of the rainfall, Ravi Kishan said that he had not witnessed such heavy rain in Gorakhpur in the last 15 to 19 years. He added that water levels had started decreasing in several areas and authorities were working towards restoring normal conditions.
MP also expressed condolences over the deaths of three people in Campierganj after a tree fell during the storm.
