Mother killed while resisting daughter’s abduction
Meerut: Shocking new details have emerged in the heart-wrenching Meerut Kapsad murder case. Police investigations reveal that the tragic incident was triggered after the engagement of 17-year-old Ruby, daughter of the deceased Sunita Devi.
Ruby’s marriage had been fixed about 15 days before the attack, with the wedding scheduled for April 2. The engagement celebrations reportedly angered the main accused, Paras Som.
Meerut Kapsad Case: Paras Som Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody, Ruby Presented in Court
Authorities revealed that Paras Som had planned Ruby’s abduction nearly a week in advance. He closely monitored her movements and, according to villagers, was enraged when news of her engagement spread throughout the village. Determined to carry out a horrific crime, Paras Som set his plan in motion.
Police investigations indicate that Paras Som’s initial intent was only to abduct Ruby. However, when her mother, Sunita Devi, intervened, he brutally attacked and killed her. Villagers described Paras as a cunning and volatile individual with a history of violence, prone to anger over minor disputes.
Records and eyewitness accounts suggest that Paras had previously attacked family members, including a violent assault on his father. Police believe the accused’s criminal tendencies significantly contributed to the incident.
After his arrest, Paras Som was interrogated for approximately seven hours, during which he confessed to key aspects of the crime. Police are also collecting statements from Ruby and cross-verifying both accounts to reconstruct the events accurately. Some discrepancies in statements have been reported, prompting investigators to carefully examine timelines, locations, and circumstances.

Ruby’s brother, Narsi Kumar, raised concerns over potential police pressure on his sister, asking authorities not to coerce her in any way. “She has millions of brothers standing with her; there is no need to fear,” he said emotionally.
On Thursday morning, Sunita Devi and Ruby were heading to the fields in Kapsad village when Paras Som, along with accomplices Sunil and others, attempted to abduct Ruby. Sunita opposed the abduction and was attacked with a sickle, later succumbing to her injuries in the hospital.
Ruby was rescued two days later after police tracked the accused to Haridwar. Paras Som had initially hidden in Nagal village in Saharanpur district before attempting to flee via Rudrapur railway station, where he was finally apprehended.
