Lucknow: The Central Government has announced the schedule for the 16th Census in Uttar Pradesh, marking one of the largest statistical exercises in the country. The census will be conducted in two phases, combining traditional door-to-door surveys with enhanced digital methods to ensure accuracy and transparency.

Phase One: May 22-June 20, 2026

The first phase will involve extensive household-level data collection. Trained enumerators will visit homes across the state to gather key information, including family size, education levels, employment status, and other socio-economic details. Data on housing conditions and assets will also be recorded to present a comprehensive picture of living standards.

Phase Two: February 2027

The second phase will focus on final population enumeration and data verification. Information collected during the first phase will be cross-checked and validated to ensure accuracy before final figures are compiled.

Doorstep Data Collection with Digital Push

Enumerators will reach every household, using a mix of digital tools and conventional methods. Authorities have emphasized improved transparency and efficiency, with technology playing a central role in the process.

Why the Census Matters

Beyond population figures, the census will serve as the backbone for policy planning and governance. Government schemes, development strategies, and resource allocation decisions in the coming years will rely heavily on this data. Preparations are already underway, with officials undergoing training to ensure a smooth and error-free operation.
