Lucknow: On the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process has been completed in Uttar Pradesh, and the provisional voter list has been published. Following this, the date for registering new voters has been announced. Individuals who have attained the voting age between January 6 and February 6, 2026, can enroll their names in the electoral roll. The Commission has clarified that no applications will be accepted after the stipulated date.

Form 6 and Declaration Required

The Election Commission stated that filling out Form 6 is mandatory for adding a name to the Assembly electoral roll. A declaration must also be submitted, signed by the applicant. This declaration must clearly state that the applicant is not registered in the electoral roll of any other location and has not acquired citizenship of any other country. Providing false information is punishable by imprisonment of up to one year or a fine.

Form 8 and Details for Transfer

Voters filling out Form 8 for transfer from another state will also be required to submit a declaration. This requires filling out details such as parents' names, Assembly constituency number, part number, and serial number. This system has been implemented to prevent a person from registering for two places.

Notice Upload and BLO Responsibilities

After the provisional voter list is published under the SIR process, notices will be uploaded to the Election Commission's website. Printed notices will be given to BLOs (Booth Level Officers). BLOs will go door-to-door to distribute notices to voters who have not been mapped to the 2003 voter list. Notices are to be distributed to approximately 77,000 voters in the district.

Document Requirements

BLOs are raising awareness among voters about providing documents. Voters born before July 1, 1987, must provide their own documents. Those born after that date must submit documents for one or both parents. Voters born after December 2, 2004, must provide documents for both parents.

Official Statement

Deputy District Election Officer, Mau, Satyapriya Singh, stated that the process for claims and objections is ongoing. The notices will be made available to BLOs as soon as they are uploaded to the website. Filling out Form 6 is mandatory for new voters and can be done online or offline.
