UP Draft Voter List Flags Massive Deletions After SIR Exercise
Lucknow: The draft voter list released after the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttar Pradesh has created a stir in political circles. According to data, more than 100,000 voters have been removed from the list in 50 assembly seats in the state. Of these, 47 were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2022 assembly elections. These include high-profile seats like Ayodhya, Varanasi North, Varanasi Cantt, and Lucknow Cantt.
Both Varanasi North and Varanasi Cantt assembly seats fall within Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. The Lucknow Cantt seat is represented by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. Of these 50 seats, only three were won by the Samajwadi Party in 2022.

Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest number of voter deletions following the SIR exercise conducted in 12 states and union territories. The names of approximately 28 million voters (about 18.5%) have been removed. This has reduced the total number of voters in the state from 154 million in October 2025 to 125 million.
According to the data, the highest number of voter deletions occurred in Lucknow North, where over 1.9 lakh names were removed. This was followed by Sarojini Nagar (1.8 lakh), Agra Cantt (1.8 lakh), Allahabad North (1.7 lakh), and Noida (1.75 lakh). A total of approximately 4.33 lakh voters were removed in the five assembly constituencies falling under Prime Minister Modi's Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency.
UP SIR draft voter list released; 12.55 crore voters included
According to the list released by the state's Chief Electoral Officer,
Analysis of these data has appeared in media reports.
Out of 403 assembly seats, the BJP-led NDA had an average deletion of 73,470 voters in 273 seats, while the INDIA alliance had an average deletion of 61,903 in 128 seats. Of the 50 seats with more than 100,000 deletions, only 9 were seats where the BJP won by a very narrow margin (less than 2% vote share).
The data also reveals a gender imbalance. A total of 15 million women voters were removed from the voter list, compared to 13 million men. 1,755 third-gender voters were also removed. Women were more likely to be excluded for migration and absence, while men were more likely to be excluded for death and duplication.
These figures have also raised concerns within the BJP. According to party sources, a target of adding 200 new voters per booth has been set. A total of approximately 35 million voters are being enlisted. These SIR figures could play a significant role in Uttar Pradesh politics ahead of the upcoming elections.
